How can we best maintain Tantec equipment?

"Maintenance Chart" is included in the technical documentation following the equipment, and it describes in a simple way which maintenance points to check on the system with various service intervals. Generally all Tantec equipment calls for a minimum of maintenance and is designed for 24 hours use.

Are any spare parts necessary?

There are just a few wearing parts in a Tantec treater, and they are listed on a "Spare Part List" in the technical documentation following the equipment.

How fast can Tantec deliver its equipment?

Standard components and smaller treaters: 2-4 weeks. Customized equipment: 8-12 weeks, depending on complexity.

Who are Tantec’s largest customers?

Tantec specialises in both standard and customised Plasma and Corona treatment equipment. Our largest customer segments are found within the Medical Device, Automotive, Cable&Pipe, Electronics industries.

Does Tantec offer after-sale services?

Tantec offers start-up of equipment and training of operator personnel at the customers site, and Tantec technicians are available for annual maintenance service on supplied equipment.

What is corona treatment?

Corona treatment is a high-frequency, high-voltage electrical discharge. The discharge is generated between an electrode and a counter electrode. The corona discharge has such a powerful impact on the substance surface that the molecular structure changes in a way that improves the surface wettability.

Is any extraction required from a Corona treater?

Yes, ozone is formed as a by-product of the corona-discharge process. It is an allotropic form of oxygen, and exists at room temperature as an unstable gas with a sharp, characteristic odour. It can usually be detected by its odour at concentrations as low as 0.01 to 0.05 ppm, which are below the permissible exposure level of 0.1ppm. Tantec supplies a standard range of ozone filters with flow sensors to control extraction air flows, and Tantec guarantees the ozone level in the working area is not exceeding the permissible exposure level.

Does line speed affect the results of corona treatment?

Yes, the higher line speed, or the higher throughput of products, the more Corona power is required. Tantec can easily calculate the need of treatment power, and specify the number of electrodes and size of Corona Generator.

Is it possible to treat metal surfaces?

Yes. Metal surfaces can be treated by using special insulated electrodes or the PlasmaTEC treatment nozzles. Treatment of Metal surfaces is often a matter of both cleaning and surface activation. Often Stainless steel surfaces are treated with either Ceramic Corona Electrodes or PlasmaTEC nozzles to ensure max. wettability and cleaning before bonding etc.

Which materials can be successfully treated?

Almost all commonly used base materials are easily treated. The material list includes mateials such as :

PP PE PES Teflon (PTFE)
Cross Linked Polymers PC ABS PS
EPDM TPF TPE Stainless Steel
Aluminium

 And others

Can corona equipment be built into my existing production line or is it always a batch process?

In most cases, the corona equipment is integrated into the existing production equipment.

What types of parts can be treated?

Tantec specialises in the development and manufacture of both standard and customised corona treatment equipment for almost any given application. (list of common applications)

What does dyne level / mN/m mean?

The mN/m  level (or dyne level) reflects the surface wettability – the higher the mN/m level, the better the wettability/adhesion. As reference de-ionised water is 73mN/m at 20oC. (mN/m is mili Newton per Meter)

How can the improved adhesion be measured?

The improved adhesion strength can easily be measured either through contact-angle measurement or by using dyne inks. Dyne inks are available from Tantec. Look for the DyneTEC.

Does corona discharge generate any by-products?

Ozone is generated during any high-voltage, high-frequency discharge. The ozone is easily neutralised using standard ozone filter systems.
